Boulder Track Club Runners Aim for National and International Marks at Music City Distance Carnival
Boulder Track Club High Performance Team athletes Maor Tiyouri, Alex Monroe, Laura Thweatt, Jordan Jennings, Alexa Rogers, and Sarah Hutchings will be running at the Music City Distance Carnival on June 6th in Nashville, Tennessee. Maor Tiyouri, Alex Monroe, Alexa Rogers, and Sarah Hutchings will be racing the 5,000 meters, while Laura Thweatt will race the mile and Jordan Jennings will race the 800 meters.
The Music City Distance Carnival has grown to be Tennessee’s premiere track meet, and has attracted national and international attention over the last decade. The meet has produced more sub-4 minute miles than any other track meet in the entire southern United States, and continues to grow in popularity for both fans and runners.
Maor Tiyouri recently broke the Israel National record in the 5,000m at the Mt. Sac Relays with a time of 16:08.83. At the Bolder Boulder 10k on Memorial Day, Maor finished second, with a time of 35:49.13. Maor is looking to run another fast time at the Music City Distance Carnival as she prepares to represent Israel in the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan in late June. Her goal will be to run the 5,000m in under 15:58 to make the standard for the University Games in South Korea in July.
Alex Monroe, the another BTC High Performance Team athlete who will be competing at the Music City Distance Carnival recently ran a time of 13:55.12 in the 5,000m at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, California. On Memorial Day he placed third overall in the Bolder Boulder 10K with a time of 31:02.91.
Alex will be aiming to run a sub 13:45 time for the 5,000m event, and the race at the Music City Distance Carnival is a progression race for Alex, who is hoping to hit a USA National Qualifying time later this summer with the ultimate goal of reaching the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Laura Thweatt is coming off of a minor foot injury, and this will be her first race back. Sarah Hutchings and Alexa Rogers are hoping to improve upon their 5,000-meter times, while Jordan Jennings is aiming to break a 4-year old PR with the 800 meters aiming for sub 1:51.
All six athletes are part of the Boulder Track Club High Performance Team and are coached under Lee Troop, a three-time Olympic runner who now resides with his wife and family in Boulder, Colorado.
